Andrew M. Malec, Ph.D., Partner and Managing Director at O’Keefe, is the firm’s Chief Economist and head of the firm’s Intellectual Property (“IP”) Practice Group. He is a recognized expert in providing economic advisory services, litigation support and valuation opinions. Dr. Malec has significant litigation support experience in economic damage quantification, expert witness testimony, and valuation opinions. As a Ph.D. Economist practicing in the litigation support industry, he specializes in utilizing his economics background to assist in providing economic advisory services to litigators on complex, commercial litigation matters, including but not limited to, automotive recalls, statistical analysis, warranty analysis, breach of contract, antitrust, tortious interference, intellectual property infringement, securities litigation, business interruption, and shareholder dispute matters. His industry expertise includes, but is not limited to the, aerospace, automotive, investment, manufacturing, healthcare, oil & gas, and retail sectors.
Dr. Malec regularly testifies in state and federal courts on a variety of litigious matters and is an expert in communicating complicated economic topics in a simple, clear and easy to understand manner.
His valuation experience includes providing valuation opinions of debt, enterprise value, equity, intangible assets/intellectual property, and stock options across a broad range of industries for corporate planning, financial reporting, taxation, transaction, ESOPs, litigation, and strategic planning purposes.
Dr. Malec presents and publishes extensively in the areas of automotive recalls, consumer behavior, economics, financial valuation, economic damages, and corporate governance. He has also taught various undergraduate and graduate courses in economics and corporate finance.
Dr. Malec is an Editorial Board Member for The Value Examiner (trade journal for the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA), Member of NACVA, and faculty member for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Expert Witness Deposition Skills Workshop. Dr. Malec is a member of the American Economic Association, the Midwest Economics Association, the Western Economic Association International, and the Financial Management Association International. Andrew is also a frequent guest on CBS Public Affairs Radio discussing a wide-range of topics affecting local, regional, and national economies.
Dr. Malec holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Wayne State University and is a graduate of University of Michigan, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
